The biggest issues for me are the violence and drug-use. The violence is extremely over-the-top, if you play this game for no more than a few minutes you will probably see at least one head exploding in slow-motion and in graphic detail.
Limbs can be severed in combat and it is possible to dismember corpses. It is true that the graphics are far from photo-realistic, but the levels of violence are so extreme that I really don't think it matters. Another troubling aspect of the violence is that it is not uncommon to witness characters being tortured, dismembered or just generally brutalized even if the player chooses to play as a pacifist. The drug use is even more troubling.
Although "chems" fallout slang for drugs have negative side-effects in the game there are certain chems that the player must use to be successful. Moreover, the negative consequences for drug use really aren't severe enough it is not possible to die from an overdose, for example. I feel like this is a very dangerous message for kids. Also, unlike most games the drugs are presented in a very realistic manner, instead of "potions" or generic "first-aid kits" Fallout uses items such as bottles of prescription pills, syringes or inhalers as power ups, once again a very bad message for young players.
Although there are no explicit sex scenes, sex is a big part of this game and basically unavoidable. There are prostitutes and it is also possible to have sexual encounters with a few other characters in the game, although the screen blacks-out during these encounters the audio continues. Compared to the violence and drug use the sex is not nearly as prevalent, but still inappropriate in my opinion. Profanity is also commonly used throughout the game, but this is a minor concern when compared to some of the other aspects.
All-in-all I would say some teenagers may be mature enough to handle this game, but even then I really think a responsible parent should have a frank discussion with the kid about the use of drugs in this game beforehand.
Would you expect anything less than sex, drugs, and violence? But in all seriousness, it's essentially Fallout 3 in fact it is the same game engine but set in "New" Vegas.
The game has much more content including weapons and armor. The choices in this game are more gray and ambiguous than 3, with two forces vying for control of Vegas, one based on democracy, the other slavery, you will find that not everything is so black and white. Plenty of sex, drugs, and violence, perhaps more so than its predecessor. I think this game is suitable for anyone who likes RPG and looking for something a little more glamorous than Fallout 3.
Adult Written by rileyrdog March 24, Adult Written by David Featherson February 24, Best Survival game ever Best game ever, I've played it several a times and I think it sends a good roll model towards crime and realization of survival.
I think this is a good game for anyone 13 and up. A definite buy! I bought for my kid who begged for it, and after I looked at it for myself I see no problems, just if swearing is a problem for you.
There is no sex like it says, I've never ever got any impression of that. Violence can be another problem, not terribly much but according to other reviewing sites it can be turned off. Once agin it proves the rating is sometimes overdramatic, I'd say this the perfect game for kids who parents feel are responsible for it. If you think this is the kind of game your kid would want or if your kid requests it, it's a green light for sure. Adult Written by Eli Propper January 20, I think this game is good.
It is violent and bloody but not crazy bad. Not really any drug use. But a little bit of language. A great game with outstanding game play. Adult Written by Thegamingguy August 3, Good for mature tweens and teens.
First off, this is an excellent game. The sheer amount of things to do is just amazing. But, there are some things to look out for. Fallout: New Vegas is a post-apocalyptic role-playing video game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks. While New Vegas is not a direct sequel, it uses the same engine and style as Fallout 3 , and many of its developers worked on previous Fallout games at Black Isle Studios.
It is the fourth major installment in the Fallout series and sixth overall. The game is set primarily in a post-apocalyptic Nevada , California , Arizona and Utah. A backwards compatible version for Xbox One was released on June 23, They knew the game would not be a direct, traditional sequel to Fallout 3 , and it was referred to as " Fallout 3. It was specifically designed to be more of an expansion rather than a sequel; Obsidian, however, saw the project as akin to the Grand Theft Auto titles Vice City and San Andreas - not numbered entries, but still full games in their own right.
As Bethesda "had dibs" on the U. East Coast, Obsidian set the game in the American West. Obsidian submitted a three-page pitch to Bethesda for the project, which they named " Fallout: Sin City.
The team initially did not have access to the source code until Bethesda cleared the security of it. They used development tools for a few months before they were given the source code, which let them dive in to deeper development.
The game was originally slated to have three playable races - human , ghoul , and super mutant. This idea was abandoned due to issues with the engine, specifically with how the weapons and armor would work. The game was announced on April 20, , at Bethesda's London showcase. A cinematic teaser trailer and a gameplay trailer were then subsequently released. John Gonzalez was the lead creative designer, while Obsidian founder Chris Avellone, who worked on Fallout 2 and Van Buren , was a senior designer.
Joe Sanabria was the lead artist. Gameplay includes a combat system that allows for both first and third person view and features the ability to use weapon iron sights. The game also made a change from the true bullet flight paths in Fallout 3 to simulated bullet flight paths, which means the bullets, when fired, originate from the center of the screen's crosshairs, rather than the tip of the gun's barrel.
If an enemy has a high DT, some weapons may be ineffective. This is indicated by a red shield near the enemy's health bar when attacking it, both in and out of V. The damage threshold will be due to high armor or a built-in mechanic to that character, and will require the Courier to either retreat or attack with a more powerful weapon.
Hardcore mode is an optional setting that attempts to make the game more realistic, with gameplay elements such as dehydration, and non-instantaneous healing. It can be turned on and off mid-game. Either a trophy or achievement is awarded for completing Fallout: New Vegas on Hardcore mode.
In order to earn it, the entire game must be played in the mode from the point first prompted until the endgame sequence, without ever turning the setting off. Traits can be chosen and perks are gained every two levels. While using V. Use of one's weapon can be seen in slow motion and greater detail. Had useful details 1. Read my mind 1. Had useful details. Read my mind. Teen, 13 years old Written by Gordonfreemanpie57 September 3, Fallout New Vegas is a masterpiece. Fallout New Vegas is an absolute masterpiece of rpg. Fallout New Vegas is about roaming the Mojave wasteland in search of the gangster who killed you before the game kicks off. On your journey for revenge it is an extremely dark , mature adventure which is a must play for older gamers.
The 3 bad things in the game. Violence, cursing, and sexual references. With the violence, it is extremely gory and bloody with both gun combat and melee. Body parts can be blown off with blood covering the surroundings. There is also suicide, arranged murder, and in one of the factions, crucifixion. The player if they chose can have sex with prostitutes for caps but there is no nudity shown at all.
They go to a bed, and the screen fades to black and you wake up. There is no actual nudity in the game but hookers and prostitutes wear tight clothing showing cleavage. Overall, Fallout New Vegas is a must play, but not for kids. In a game of choices it depends on the kid. I have had this game for about a year now and have played through it 3 times. The Fallout series as a whole are games that are very centred around choice.
Be who you want to be and do what you want to do. In my opinion this is the games biggest strength however in terms of content it also means that it will vary based on what choices you make. The rest of this review is based on what Id say is about average for what you would encounter.
Violence: The games graphics look rather dated which makes what with current day graphics may be disturbing gore rather tame. In combat limbs will fall off and there will be blood where the limbs are detached.
I understand having wrote that and calling it tame I may seem like a psychopath but really if you watch some game play you'll see what I mean. Sex: The game contains sexual references and there are some characters with which you can have intercourse with. If you choose to have sex with a character the screen fades to black and you may hear some moaning depending on who it is. However the act is never shown. Swearing: This is likely the point where you need to know the kid.
I for example swear plenty with my friends and have been shown many movies with swearing in them. If this game were a movie it would likely be rated R primarily for swearing. If your character is addicted to drugs they will suffer nerfs to their abilities until more is taken or they have a doctor help them off their addiction.
You may also encounter other people who have drug or alcohol problems which you can usually either feed or help them kick their addictions with the choice leading to good or bad karma. I understand this is pretty long but I wanted to get it all out there.
In conclusion Id say that most Teens could handle this with no problem but it really depends on the kid and the choices they make. Teen, 15 years old Written by Dadsday August 24, Obsidian's wonderful entry in Bethesda's post-apocalyptic open-world role-playing series was critically-acclaimed for its writing, characters and freedom with which you could complete quests. While it suffered a raft of technical problems - as most of the games built on Bethesda's RPG engine did at the time - its reputation has only grown more positive over the last decade, and it is now considered one of, if not the best Fallout game.
Looking at a run-down of the mission Come Fly With Me, it reads like a list of fetch quests, but the compelling story points, array of player choices and engaging dialogue disguised this so well I never really noticed at the time. And, at the end of the trail, you always knew there'd be an incredible payoff - like launching a cult of ghouls into space with Ride of the Valkyries playing in the background. Back in April , I wrote about the horror of Vault 11 , my favourite vault in the Fallout series this article includes a bonus interview with Vault 11 designer Eric Fenstermaker, which I think provides fascinating insight into the development of the game.
Fallout New Vegas was of course followed by Fallout 4 and, most recently, the online-focused Fallout Now Microsoft owns Bethesda, it'll be fascinating to see how the next Fallout game turns out.
